But I think it's a movie that was always more than the sum of its famous parts. When I finally got around to seeing it, I thought Peter Boyle's part best summed it up, as social commentary, as criticism, in a way the '60s counterculture could never adequately explain. But to get to that point, it has to be De Niro edging toward oblivion, for it to sink in. So to be remembered, it has to <i>be</i> memorable.
