If I recall correctly, the cost of the space battle was huge due to the cgi constraints of the time. The technology was not widespread and the hardware quite costly. A few years made a huge difference - the premiere of DS9 showed a much more complex fight scene (Battle of Wolf 379, I think) which cost considerably less.<BR/><BR/>I caught the original broadcast of "Yesterday's Enterprise" and recall being amazed at the effects.
