Thanks for reminding me that I'm not the only one who thinks about this sort of thing.Jayunderscorezerohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16611897906121531154noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37940560.post-47602924569434925972008-10-10T01:09:00.000-03:002008-10-10T01:09:00.000-03:00Very cool and very voyeuristic! I have that Borges book and to my eternal shame I still have yet to read more than a bit of it.Nikhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08817525516356141103noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37940560.post-34129841275049800772008-10-09T23:09:00.000-03:002008-10-09T23:09:00.000-03:00Madeley: Collected and retold by 19th-century scho...Madeley: Collected and retold by 19th-century scholar Thomas Bulfinch, my edition contains the full texts of The Age of Fable, The Age of Chivalry and Legends of Charlemagne, and includes illustrations from a variety of sources, and maps as well.

So basically, all the major Greek and Norse Myths, Arthurian Legends, and the like, as well as texts on other polytheistic myths, creatures of legend, plenty of Celtic stuff, and the tales of "English" heroes like Beowulf and Robin Hood.

Sea: We'll see how my other shelves stack up!Siskoidhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08266365376486695812noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37940560.post-3661562453280093612008-10-09T22:18:00.000-03:002008-10-09T22:18:00.000-03:00It's really, really scary how many of those books ...It's really, really scary how many of those books are also on MY bookshelves.Sea-of-Greenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00813600516703661200noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37940560.post-72627154190110162042008-10-09T11:41:00.000-03:002008-10-09T11:41:00.000-03:00"Bullfinch's Mythology" sounds interesting. Who neglected for years to fully organize said collection after a move.

I recently moved again and swore I wouldn't let things get so out of hand. It's been six months and things are better, but still not up to snuff.

Boorstin's Seekers is quite good; I've read it but not Creators or Discoverers, oddly enough.

Bullfinch's Mythology is an old favorite, but Edith Hamilton's is my preferred book on the subject. I read it for the first time in elementary school and I still think it holds the record for the most re-readings of any book.

I'm quite certain much of my love for superhero comics comes from my repeated devouring of the Greek and Roman myths when I was a kid.

Fun post.Austin Gortonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14281239771248780430noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37940560.post-28380749964927013392008-10-09T09:26:00.000-03:002008-10-09T09:26:00.000-03:00And I'd call this one of the more organized shelvi...And I'd call this one of the more organized shelving.Siskoidhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08266365376486695812noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37940560.post-38220183990767340442008-10-09T09:17:00.000-03:002008-10-09T09:17:00.000-03:00I'm usually finding that the humor books often giv...I'm usually finding that the humor books often given to me as gifts are read all of once and then never touched again. Chez Baisch is in the midst of a massive organizational upheaval and your post is comforting in that I'm not alone in literary disarray.Dehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10132196355430345167noreply@blogger.com
