Teen Titans #9, DC Comics, May-June 1967

Is Teen Titans getting more and more ridiculous? I think it may be. "The Big Beach Rumble" starts out as the usual teenfest, with the Titans putting on some "TT" t-shirts (I'm not stuttering or anything) and heading for Baxter Beach to prevent spring break from turning ugly. The kids of nearby campuses are prone, it seems, to tearing up the beach, causing a ruckus and other unsightly activities. The solution is to make them work together to counter the real evil here, which is the erosion that is slowly but surely destroying Baxter Beach. So let's lay down some train tracks, engine in some big rocks and build a jetty! Yay Environment!

And how about some BBQ with that?
Haney would have us believe that the Amazons had hamburgers 3000 years ago... and they're delicious!

But that's just the first Act! Enter: Captain Tiger. He's a gruff submarine pirate who wears Fred Flinstone's hand-me-downs, and he aims to loot Baxter with no trouble because "Baxter Beach has safe depth right up to the surf." Considering he drives a nuclear sub, that's a pretty terrible beach! There must be no tide, and it goes from sand to the abyss in one small step. But since the teens have built a jetty, the sub runs aground. That makes Captain Tiger... ANGRY!
"I will blast it level as the sands!" Remember that phrase, it'll come back to haunt us.

A battle royale ensues in which Captain Tiger fires a nipply torpedo at the beachfront bank. Another reason Baxter Beach sucks?
It's on a steep incline!

This guy's tough. He blows up the bank, nails Wonder Girl to his sub by magnetizing the hull to attract her bracelets (but not the tracks, the train, or anything else metal), kicks Kid Flash in the face, and trips up Robin. Aqualad meanwhile has to sacrifice himself to destroy the Captain's big gun. So it's up to the kids! They paint a real nice sign, stick it to the front of the train, and ram the sub with it!
In the confusion, some random kids get into a fist fight with the pirates and save the day. And that's the story of that time we made spring break wholesome again.
