5 Things to Like About Batman: Gotham After Midnight #1

Hey! This was pretty good! I'm only surprised because of the generic title, really.

1. Kelley JonesNo matter how distorted stroke expressionistic his Batman is, I've always loved his rendition. This panel best exemplifies what there is to like about the art in this mini-series. His Gotham and his Bat-Cave are pretty extreme too.

2. The crazy-ass cape
'nuff sown! I mean, 'nuff said!

3. "I'm Batman."
Scarecrow's reaction is a riot! You're gonna get yourself hurt if you keep up with that sass, man.

4. Everybody's scared of Batman
The comic is filled with panels of people seeing the fleeting shadow of the Batman and crapping their pants. You really don't want to be up after midnight in Gotham.

5. Alfred the mother hen
The only thing funnier than Alfred's point (ninjas always operate on a full stomach) is Bruce's resignation at the end of the exchange.

My initial thought was that we really didn't need a generic Batman mini-series, even if it was drawn by Kelley Jones, especially when Grant Morrison's Batman was in dire need of a good artist. Well, I'm still not sure we need it, but it's turning out to be a fun story.

people used to comment how long Berni Wrightson always drew Bats' cape, so Kelley Jones is like "hell, i can do better than that!"

i also like bruce's face as he munches the sammich. he looks like a little kid forced to eat his vegetables.
