Rom and Starshine's day trip across Canada's border continues in Rom #57 as they attempt, with Alpha Flight's help, to stop the Wraiths from flooding the country's water basin with some kind of evil-enhanced pollution, and incidentally, destroying the industrial town of Beaver Falls.
Now, last issue, Beaver Falls was squarely placed in Ontario, though strangely, in the Beaverkill Valley region, which is in upstate New York. THIS issue, it's still supposed to be in Ontario, but it's also described as being in Northwestern Canada, confusing it, I think, with the Beaver Falls in British Columbia.
Neither location, by the way, would be close enough to the St. Lawrence River to be prime spots for the Wraith plan, but if I don't bitch about not finding Latveria on a map, I shouldn't bitch about this.
In any case, if the heroes wanted to stop the flood, they're coming late to the party, cuz that dam has most definitely burst. And as the Spaceknights are pelted by shards of the local church, they come to realize that nothing's gonna stop Canadian Nature.
Not their combined Galadorian power.
Not Shaman's magic beanstalk barrier.
Not Sasquatch's makeshift barricade.
This is not a feel good issue where everybody lives at the end. (Are there any such issues of Rom?)
Snowbird can't be everywhere, but you know, she could be SOMEwhere. At last, she jumps in the water as an "awesome arctic polar bear".
Yes, that IS awesome. Sasquatch also fishes a guy out of the water, and Shaman?
He saves the one person that can breathe underwater. Bravo, sir. Bravo. (She's poisoned by the black waters, ok sure, but still. Your priority should not be your teammate who's issue away from becoming an alien monster.) With Alpha's poor performance (where's Puck when you need him?), it's a good thing Rom is there. Do you agree?
That's right. Another job well done.
Kinda.
I have to hand it to Bill Mantlo and Sal Buscema. They looked at Byrne's Alpha Flight and really respected its style when crafting this crossover. Panoramic views and as few words as possible. You know, cuz that Fantastic Four isn't gonna write/draw itself.
Next: Rom and Starshine follow the black waters to their next guest star.

I think for being the 80s, that idea was new: even the heroes sometimes fails.
And you didn't catch Shaman's sharp tactical mind! If you help Marrina, the superswimmer, then she will save a lot of people after.
You should improve your Strategy skill, folk... :-D
Roger
2) Marrina then... didn't. She was knocked out for the rest of the issue.
Take care, Julie
