Saturday Morning Shows I Don't Remember Existing

Somebody somewhere owes somebody a lawsuit.

Surprisingly enough, the lawsuit could have gone the other way (but Columbia paid Filmation a licensing fee to use the title). The Ghost Busters actually camecame first, as the cartoon is just an animated version of a live action Saturday morning show from the 1970's!! Larry Storch!! Forrest Tucker!! A guy in a gorilla suit!!

The cartoon version of the movie came out the same year, as was called "The Real Ghostbusters."

This is also why they don't often say "Ghostbusters" on screen in the film, as they weren't sure that they could get the name. They apparently kept it so that if they did have to change the name, it would require minimal refilming.

Wasn't there also another animated series called GhostBusters -- BEFORE the "Real" GhostBusters? I seem to remember that one, too. It was very Scooby-Doo-ish. One of the characters was a goofy-looking dog in a stocking cap that turned invisible when it got scared.

Yeah, ergo the "Real" ghostbusters tag on the Venkman & Company ghostbusters cartoon in the 80s.

The live show and the cartoon that predated the Ghostbusters movie and cartoon that we all know and love are beeeezaaaarre. Definitely worth checking out on the YouTube.

Hey, anybody remember the Call of Cthulhu episode of Real Ghostbusters?

I remember the live Storch & Tucker version very well, but I never saw the animated version they did to compete with the movie spinoff.
Strange. I just reviewed the unaired pilot for "Real" version, and went into the show's history, including the Filmation stuff. And now you look into the 70's live action namesake.
