1179. Turn of the Tide

PLOT: Years ago, Cardassian POWs held in a Bajoran prison escaped. Now, they've downed a ship with both Kira and Dukat aboard as a diversion for a larger plan, which the duo uncover. They want to send an antimatter bomb disguised as an asteroid to the Bajoran system and destroy DS9, the Wormhole AND Bajor. Kira and Dukat are to die aboard the thing. Back on DS9, O'Brien finds he can't trust the news that their ship had an accident and uses a commandeered pirate ship and Odo to retrieve Kira and Dukat. He does so just after they've preemptively activated the bomb. They warp away as it blows and Dukat has the ex-cons arrested.

CONTINUITY: Morn cameo! Dukat appears. Bashir is still analyzing Varahat DNA (issue #27-28).

DIVERGENCES: The Cardassians are apparently using a Miradorn Raider (Vortex). Odo imitates a Cardassian face.

REVIEW: It's another of Dukat's road trips with Kira, and those are usually enjoyable. Good art and fun locales helps make this one fun too, and though it has nothing profound to say about the duo (they can never be friends), it at least pays homage to the onscreen relationship. This is the last issue of Malibu's series (for us, there's still an Annual and a Special to go), so most of the cast gets a scene, which sometimes feels like padding. But they're appropriate and light character moments, no real complaints. And with the whole Bajoran system on the line, the story has that epic touch you want out of your finale. Out with a bang, as they say.
