The Horde invades Earth and kill hundreds of people every time a superhero is seen. Superman goes underground to protect the innocent, but is recalled to duty by an insurgent group calling itself the Super Seven (sorry, not accepting new members). But that's a story I've already told.
Among the Seven is a brash young hero calling himself... Superboy. Just another metahuman kid who's watched too much tv, but can he survive alien attacks and terrible art to become the (Else)world's next Superman? He talks the talk...
He may even walk the walk...
And in the end, he proves his mettle. When Superman dies, Superboy rips the uniform off his dead body and keeps the legend alive, presenting the body of the Horde's leader to the poor, huddled masses.
A new generation of heroes lives on... and this new Superman, like his forebear, will have to keep a close watch on Lex Luthor. Rebuilding Metropolis ain't gonna be easy!
