Reign of the Supermen #294: Boy Super-Outlaw From Outer Space

Source: Superboy vol.1 #65 (1958)
Type: TransformationIf you're Superboy, how do you go about fixing the "kryptonite problem"? Well, you'll need giant tongs and acid, for starters.
Now we'll show how futile it is to even attempt to fix the "kryptonite problem". Kryptonite gas, you see, may have adverse effects. That night, the full moon makes Superboy grow a Mr. Hyde personality:
He puts on a dark cloak and starts causing mayhem which he must invariably fix in the daytime - destroying roadworks, creating false alarms in the middle of the night, helping escaped felons, lying to his parents, wearing those pajamas...
Does anyone have the heart to tell poor Clark "Dr. Jekyll" Kent that moonlight has no distinct properties? From there, he asks his dad to put bars on his room's door and window and paint the whole thing with kryptonite dust so he can't escape during the night to cause trouble. Except by that night, the effects of the gas have worn off, and the world chooses that night to go into disaster mode! But Pa Kent won't let him out to save Smallville from an erupting volcano (you know Kansas and its geological instability), expertly casting with his fishing pole for whatever tool Clark finds to cut his way out. But when a plan decides to take a dive over town, Ma prevails on her husband to let Superboy handle it. He saves the plane and the town and throws that damned black hood in the volcano's mouth.

So, junior Kryptonians, have you learned a valuable lesson?

The moon must be destroyed.
