Cat of the Geek #126: Faron

Name: Faron
Stomping Grounds: Frieda's cat in Peanuts
Side: Neutral
Breed: American shorthair
Cat Powers: Bonelessness. Can speak dog.
Skills: Eat 2, Sleep 9, Mischief 5, Wit 4, Independence 0
Cat Weaknesses: Unpopular with the kids - no one wants to hold it when Frieda needs to go somewhere where cats are not welcome. Difficulty getting out of a tree. Doomed by Charles Schulz's inability to draw a cat to his satisfaction.

Oh, you just made my night. I love cats whose owners have naturally curly hair.

Poor Faron!

That seems like a VERY personal comment!
I would love to hear the whole story as to why there isn's a more prominent cat character in PEANUTS since SNOOPY is such THE stereotypical dog. You would think natural his opposite would emerge. Woodstook is more his partner in crime.

The cat antagonist in Peanuts is World War II, never seen on-panel but an absolute terror who scratches Snoopy's dog house, beats up on Woodstock and Snoopy etc. He's been a Cat of Geek.

The real reason why cats never caught on is jokingly referred to in the body of the post, but it's nonetheless true. Charles Schulz felt his cats looked awful and that he could never make them look right. Faron's last appearance was up a tree, and you didn't actually see him.
