Siskoid Radio: Geek Out! - February 4th

"If you hear the Achievement Unlocked sound every time you accomplish something, you might be a geek..."

Episode 3! I was stoked to find that modifications I'd made to the studio (just switching clock positions and better settings on the software) stayed in use since I made them. Hopefully, the kids at the station think my presence is beneficial. This week, I decided to mix things up a little as far as the show's structure goes AND changed the theme song to better bookend the program (also, because it's simpler to use a short tune than to fade out of one), but still not ready to welcome guests into my studio. Maybe next week. As usual, if you couldn't listen or understand the French interventions, here's the episode's playlist, with You-Tube links where available.

Intro tune: Doctor Who IX - Murray Gold
Introductions
Chepa Boogie - Les Païens (here's a live version. Local band, good guys, this was the theme song of a weird local SF anthology tv show I starred in back in the early 90s - I played a postapocalyptic mutant)
Geek News: The headlines included Matt Smith proposing to his girlfriend and Before Watchmen.
Space Walk - Lemon Jelly
Albator theme song
Movie recommendation: Moon (capsule review available on That Week in Geek)
Starman - David Bowie (Moon's director, Duncan Jones, is Bowie's son)
Comics round-up: Basically a few of the week's tweeted comic book reviews.
Comic Strip - Serge Gainsbourg feat. Brigitte Bardot
Comics recommendation/Geek Band: James Kochalka (combined two features into one since I love Kochalka's comics AND music)
Bitten to Death by Rats - James Kochalka Superstar
God - James Kochalka Superstar
Britney's Silver Can - James Kochalka Superstar
Monkey vs. Robot - James Kochalka Superstar
Up next, continuing the Robot/Monkey feud with two songs:
Robots - Dan Mangan
King Kong Five - Manu Chao (different live version)
Couple of French-language rap songs with geeky connections:
Jacuzzi - Radio Radio
Super Mario - Loco Locass
Voodoo Child - Rogue Traders (fan-made Doctor video, seems more appropriate here)
Geek 101: This week, I attempt to explain Doctor Who to the Mundanes. If Voodoo Child puts the pop in New Who, then the next song was the original Who pop:
Ticket to Ride - The Beatles
Goodbyes and your Doctor Who theme remix of the week:
Unreal Who (I Am a Time Lord) - Miguel F. Ettema

The show's on CKUM Radio every Saturday between 7 PM and 8:30 PM Atlantic Time (-4 GMT) on 93,5 FM in the Moncton area, or online, while capacity isn't exceeded, HERE.
