Geoff Johns Doesn't Want You to Read These Books

If you're reading the flagship of the DC Universe, Johns is outright TELLING you which books you shouldn't read. And I don't just mean the Big Six acting like jerks and morons, though they do headline 10 other books. Johns is more direct about these other titles though:

Don't read Justice League International, cuz Batman says they suck.
Don't read Green Arrow, cuz he's so damn needy.

Don't read Stormwatch, cuz the Martian Manhunter is some kind of filthy traitor.
But you know what? Screw all that. There's only one book you really shouldn't read... and that's Justice League.

It...has been a little peculiar hasn't it? You have Batman being all supportive in JLI, and all pissy in Justice League. You have Hal beeng teamed up with Sinestro and desperate and actually using his brain once in a while in Green Lantern, and then being an irresponsible moron in Justice League...wait. Johns actually writes Green Lantern!

It's all too confusing.

I just don't understand why DC is making so many of its key characters unlikable as people.
Craig Oxbrow said…
Maybe if they make them unlikeable enough, Robert Downey Junior will magically appear and make them more likeable and popular than ever, as he did for Iron Man!

Sounds like a plan!

I havn't understood why JLA has been so bad, right from the word go. But at least I'm not by myself.

Since we've been told that we're leading up to the "expanded" JL membership, presumably this arc concludes with the "we realize we've all been dickheads and need to be open and trusting" moral...

Presumably. But is Hal Jordan going to stop scamming the government for more Twinkies?

Omega: I have a theory that DC has started using the Marvel Method, Johns especially, giving a short outline to the artist, letting that artist do whatever (splash pages mostly), and then adding (a minimum of) dialog to the finished pages. That's the only way I can explain the Jim Lee issues.

Still doesn't explain why all the big heroes are such jerks though.

YOU GOT TOO MUCH WILDSTORM IN MY DC UNIVERSE!!!

Don't read "Green Arrow", period. The title is all kinds of ass.

I have dutifully collected every issue of "Green Arrow" (in whatever form) since Ollie came back from the dead in the early naughties. I've stuck by Ollie through the highs and lows and the dulls. But Nocenti's writing may be enough to make me drop the title altogether and wait six months after she's gone just to be sure she didn't lay any eggs.

I was a fan of Nocenti on Daredevil, and that's brought me back to GA (for now). The Krul stuff really didn't do it for me.

Wonder Woman has pretty much snapped her back in two on that final picture. That's not Jim Lee, is it? I normally give him more credit as an artist than that.
Siskoid said…
Is it? I'll check when I get home. The issue felt like it was drawn by "Various".

LiamKav, the panel you are referring to was by Aquaman artist Ivan Reis, who drew the last several pages of the issue. The first part was by Carlos D'Anda.

I did think that looked like his Aquaman.
