Another 5-Friday month? Well, better get some diversity in there!
Running on Karma - Johnnie To is well-known for his gritty crime dramas, but this is something else entirely. It's a crime drama, and it stars one of China's best actors, Andy Lau, but it's also an offbeat superhero story about a clairvoyant monk. This thing is going to be insane.
Blood and Bone - Borrowed from KFF club member Furn Sai Yuk (we all have nicknames you know), and an excuse to put Michael Jai White on this month's poster, he plays Bone, the new force of L.A.'s underground fighting scene. Kimbo Slice is in it, so... am I gonna regret putting it on the schedule?
The Supreme Swordsman - The tag line, "99 have fallen, one remains" refers to the warriors defeated by the title character, and the weapons he's taken as trophies in this late-era (1984) Shaw Brothers classic. expect a lot of "CHING" sounds.
1911: Revolution - Jackie Chan stars in this patriotic war epic about the fall of the last Chinese empire and the rise of the People's Republic. I hear it's more history than drama, but that should satisfy the club's various history nerds (yep, more than one).
Animated Origins Night - I want to finish my Kung Fu Panda boxed set, but Secrets of the Masters is only some 50 minutes long. How about a double-(short)-feature then? I'm throwing Samurai Jack's pilot (The Beginning) as a bonus!
So that's what's on tap for the end of the summer. As usual, if you can't come to my house to see them, each film will be reviewed on the following Sunday in This Week in Geek.
