Reign of the Supermen #479: Superpup

Source: The Adventures of Superpup (1957)
Type: TV
After the success of the George Reeves series and its run on syndication, the powers that be (in this case producer, former cartoonist and dog lover Whitney Ellsworth) tried to get a couple of spin-offs going, none of which got beyond the pilot stage. One of those pilots was The Adventures of Superpup, a live-action animal cartoon featuring little people in animal costumes running around the real Superman show's sets (a week after Reeves' final episode wrapped)! Bark Bent works at the Daily Bugle (not Beagle?) for editor Terry Bite in Pupopolis. His Lois Lane is Pamela Poodle, and his Jimmy Olsen is hand puppet narrator Montgomery Mouse. Well, it's not quite Zoo Crew level, but you get where this was going.

In the public domain since 1993, Siskoid's Blog of Geekery is proud to present the full pilot of The Adventures of Superpup (in two parts):

No sponsor wanted to be "Your product"? Shame.

Fans can find it on DVD in the Superman Ultimate Collector's Edition, right alongside all the Superman films to date.

That would have given me nightmares as a child. I think I may have one anyway and I'm 47.

Man oh man. That's awesome. They even have the voice actor from the Mighty Hercules doing Perry. Can't get any better than this.
