Tomorrow, our final Halloween-related film - in so far as it has a monster in it - Gojira! Things don't necessarily go back to normal in November though, with some gore and supernatural themes carrying over in the month's schedule, as you can see below:
After Life - Japanese documentary maker Hirokazu Koreeda's fiction/documentary hybrid about making films in the after life is a thing of beauty, and I thought perfect for All-Saints Day (Nov.1). I've seen it before, but it needs to be shared.
Ninja Assassin - By all accounts terrible, this one comes via Special Request by one of the KFF club's own, who loves it FOR being terrible. Ergo, Korean pop star Rain on the poster this month. I'm going all out.
Lone Wolf and Cub: Baby Cart in Peril - The Manga duo continue their 6-film adventure, and it features tattooed female assassins and Baby Cart in danger. Should be better than than the somewhat inferior effort of the third film, Baby Cart to Hades. Will it recapture what we liked about Parts 1 and 2?
The Four - What happens when you mix the Fantastic Four and wuxia? Superpowers in historical China, is what! Emotionless, Iron Hands, Life Snatcher and Cold Blood are the Four Great Constables, and that's all I really know. I hear it's not that great, but surely a fun change of pace.
Come and experience Kung Fu Fridays before it's too late - we're working on a different cinephile project that may well end up replacing our weekly Asian cinema viewing! - and if you can't, catch up with capsule reviews the following Sunday.
