Reaganocomics: Who Really Ran the White House?

So remember the time President Reagan outlawed superheroes and replaced them with the Suicide Squad? It happened. If you were politically aware of the Reagan years (by which I mean, saw Saturday Night Lives sketches about it or maybe a Michael Moore documentary), you might also remember that Reagan was considered by many to be other people's puppet. Who REALLY ran the White House? Well, I've heard everything from good ol' Big Business to Nancy's astrologer.

But would you believe... DeSaad?
Looks like Michael Moore missed a trick. He should take a camera crew to Apokolips right away.

Panels from Legends #2 and #3 (1986) by John Ostrander, Len Wein, John Byrne and Karl Kesel.

I'm reminded (somewhat tenuously I admit) of a sketch from a recent episode of Shaun Micallef's Mad as Hell:

Shaun: I'm interested in the message behind your protest, namely, if Mr. Abbott is, as you portray him, a puppet, who is controlling him?
Mick: Me and Dirk.
Shaun: No, symbolically, though, who is controlling Mr. Abbott?
Mick: Oh. Big business?
Shaun: Okay, and so, is it big business that's put the blindfold on him?
Mick: Nah, me and Dirk.

It goes on like that.
