oHOTmu or NOT Ep.1: Abomination to Aguila

You've met them through the Legion of Super-Bloggers feature "Hot or Not?", which took a cast of lovely ladies with no knowledge of the Legion and asked them to weigh in on the relative hotness of every Legionnaire. But written text couldn't contain them. Now they've made the leap to podcasting! Part of the Fire & Water Podcast Network, oHOTmu or NOT? is half indexing exercise à la Who's Who Podcast, half ridiculous datability arguments about the Marvel Universe's characters as inventoried in the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe (OHOTMU) Deluxe Edition. It may not be the Marvel Universe podcast you were looking for, but it may just be the one you won't believe you did without.

The cast will rotate a bit based on availability, but in this case you're getting Elyse (Havana Nights), Isabel (Lip-Bomb), Nathalie (DJ Nath), Josée (Art-Girl), and Shotgun, all from the aforementioned LSB project, plus special guest-star Amélie from the MeliUltraviolet YouTube channel (for all your beauty tip needs).

It's probably a good thing you didn't get into specifics on the characters...some of those stories sound pretty goofy in hindsight (like when Absorbing Man got turned into cardboard).

I think El Aguila was created in the 70s, so that would explain the "colourful" costume; I can't wait to see what the ladies think of Captain Ultra...or even Luke Cage!

El Aguila was created by Dave Cockrum and Mary Jo Duffy in 1979, borderline, but still in the 70s, yeah.

This was quite a fun listen during this morning's commute. I have to agree that adamantium is pretty hot, though I kept waiting for commentary about Dr. Myron MacLain. Does MacLain's pattern baldness and lab coat put him in the hot category?

Good stuff, Siskoid. I had never listened to one of your podcasts before, but I'll come back for more. OHOFTMU was running the Book of the Dead when I first started getting into comics, and it's left me with a keen interest in the more morbid aspects of the Marvel Universe.

I totally don't get why they though Crusher Creel looked like Jason Statham though!

Jeremy: I can't tell if you're kidding or not. As for the Book of the Dead, that's ALSO where I started, but the original version, not the Deluxe version. Phoenix was on the cover.

I just have to wonder whether their opinion of Crusher Creel would have been influenced one way or the other if they'd known about the scene in his first storyline where he demonstrates his power by grabbing a curtain and turning into silk. (Though he immediately changes again, saying "But no guy wants to be made outta silk!")
