One Panel #13: More Pre-Code DC Comics Violence

From Radio Squad: "The Purple Tiger (Part 3)" by Siegel and Shuster, More Fun #13 (Sep 1936)

Last Thursday's installment of One Panel was only being facetious about the level of violence in the proto-DC Comics of 1936, but here's a better example. Because you can always count on early Siegel & Shuster to deliver the hard-man punches and... the callous cop slayings, apparently.

A grim and off-putting example of how violence in comics has been with us since the beginning. We perhaps remember the "early days" as tame Code-approved family fare, but that was a couple of decades out at this point. To think, these guys would soon be responsible for the "wholesome" superhero archetype Superman later came to represent.

I'm mostly amazed the letterer couldn't fit "riddled" together on one line.
