Krypto #37: Black Dog

From: Superboy #93 (December 1961); Action Comics #284, Adventure Comics #292, Superman's Girl Friend, Lois Lane #30, Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen #58 (January 1962)

Rounding up a few minor appearances from late 1961, the biggest of which is from Lois Lane #30, in which Superman is forced to teach Lois a lesson about her recklessness. He's not always going to be there to save her, and she takes the invulnerability he affords her for granted. Krypto's role:
To "black up" and eat an ice cream, then play dead, so Lois will think she was almost poisoned, something Superman couldn't have prevented.
Of course, the way the story plays out, Clark has "an idea", walks away for a second, and suddenly it all happens. What is this business about meeting Krypto in a cellar some minutes earlier? Needless to say, Lois never really learns her lesson. Let's abandon this one to see what else the super-dog was up to around this time...

In Superboy #93, he's used by the antagonist to deliver a message to Superboy... never could resist a delicious aroma.
And in the next story, Krypto swoops in to take care of some crooks some Clark Kent doesn't have to skulk away and turn into Superboy under Lana Lang's watchful eye.
In Action Comics 284, Supergirl seems to develop Fatal Vision, and Krypto falls victim to it.
Red Kryptonite hallucination, don't worry, he's fine!

In Adventure Comics #292, Krypto chases meteors, once helping Superboy discover a new element:
And the other, really one of Luthor's weapons, a dangerous uranium ball.
Finally, in Jimmy Olsen #58, Jim, disguised as a soda jerk, is desperate to put at least 300 pounds on a mobster's scale in the soda shop so it spits out secret information (if you must ask, you don't know the Silver Age) and spots Krypto out the window:
Useless dog. You think he stole that hot dog?

But did Krypto pretending to be black later inspire Lois to do the same?
