Krypto #42: Pink and Yellow

From: Action Comics #290 and Superboy #98 (July 1962)

In Action Comics #290, Superman and his loyal pup Krypto fly by a comet with a delicious gooey Red Kryptonite center, and get half their bodies all soft and pink.
Yep, no powers on the pink side of their bodies. That effects the speed they can fly at, what they can lift, etc. And despite appearances, they only look like bubble gum for our convenience; people in the story don't really notice it. There's a whole Reign of the Supermen article on how Superman handles it. But now we're only interested in Krypto.
Well, while Superman becomes entangled in a secret identity farce, Krypto just tries to help half a Superman survive in this dangerous world, a world where you can't vaporize a medium-sized water spout with a single eye.
And then Krypto gets attacked by another dog ON THE WRONG SIDE and I guess there's really no way to show your other flank in this dangerous world. The effect of the Red K wear off in due course, dear readers. This will not be the last Krypto article.

Meanwhile, in Superboy #98, back when Krypto was younger... The Dog of Steel was briefly involved in Ultra Boy meeting Superboy, and thinking he and Marla Latham were bad guys covering their super-villain outfits with civilian clothes, went on the offensive.
Hahaha, animal cruelty. And did Krypto go to Clark and yap at him in Morse code to warn him? Nope. That dog is yella' and flies to outer space instead, opening the door to Ultra Boy learning Superboy's secret identity and winning his spot in the Legion of Super-Heroes.

One dog, two colors.
