Straight Outta Gallifrey: Companion Bracket

Who was Doctor Who's best companion? We find out in a five-way debate for which Ashford Wright was kind enough to invite me, pitting companions both classic and new (and some of the Doctor's other recurring friends) in tournament brackets that, being fairly random, often made us feel like we were caught between an Ogri and a hard place. We might have shed a little blood along the way. In addition to our gentleman host Ashford and myself (the reasonable one), battle was joined between Corey Drew (for whom this was a baptism by fire podcast) and Tim Wallace (one actress probably wants him to stop sending her letters, I bet), and Shagg (Fire and Water's own irredeemable fanboy). Hilarious and hopefully a little insightful too.

Check it out at Straight Outta Gallifrey, under Doctor Who 64 Companion Bracket!

And if you want to make your own picks or simply follow along, here are the brackets as they were presented to us (click on it, it's bigger on the inside).
Once again, my thanks to Ashford for the opportunity to defend my favorite companions. Let's do this again next year. Maybe with villains?

I haven't listened to it yet, but if Donna doesn't make it to the final two, something's terribly wrong :)

(Bearing in mind that I haven't seen the classic episodes, so those Companions are non-entities to me.)

Old series: The Brigadier, with Liz Shaw as a worthy runner-up.

New series: Rory, with Donna as a worthy runner-up.

Ultimate winner: The Brigadier. "The earth's darkest hour, and mine: where else would you be?"

In these four we have an embarrassment of really good companions, and it was less about comparing one to another so much as being incapable of not backing this one or that. What possible argument is there against the Brigadier being the best companion? None that could possibly sway me.
