From The Red Torpedo: "The Pirate Subs" by Henry Kiefer, Crack Comics #3 (July 1940)
Don't worry, my title is facetious this week. All panels from Quality Comics out in May of 1940, but they are not really failures. It only LOOKS like the Red Torpedo bought it here, but it's part of a ploy to make the baddies think he's dead. Guy must keep spare masks on hand for just such a purpose. I love the circular panel here.
From Captain Bruce Blackburn, Counterspy: "The Hearing Eye" by Harry Campbell, Feature Comics #34 (July 1940)
Captain Bruce pulls the rug out of from under someone's feet! The "fail" here is my sorry state that some of these comics are only available in blurry microfiche format. Quality Comics had some of the best art on the stands during the Golden Age, but it's not always visible.
From Uncle Sam: "Smashing the Enemies of Free Speech!", by Will Eisner and Dave Berg, National Comics #2 (August 1940)
And you can't know how much I wanted the years to speed up so I could fill these posts with Nazis getting punched. Alas, even a Nazi-punching icon like Uncle Sam is still dealing with tainted candy scandals and reporters getting silenced by big business. Well, that's not irrelevant, is it?
