Krypto #126: Cadmus' Guard Dog

From: Superboy (v4) #70, 72-73 (January to April 2000)

The post-Zero Hour Krypto didn't last long into the 2000s, his final appearances in Superboy actually on the stands in late '99 for the most part. That's his last cover appearance above, and in the comic's interior, he runs into the bowels of Project: Cadmus, and befriends a DNAlien.
He disappears for the length of an issue, then lets himself be charmed by a mysterious woman seemingly able to channel Jonah Hex and his ugly scar. Don't ask, I'm not sure writer Karl Kesel was ever able to tell the whole story. The point is, dog really likes the ladies, psychically bonded to long-dead gunslingers or no.
For a yappy little thing, he seems quite at his ease riding Grokk the Living Gargoyle with her.
But just as he's hitting his stride, perhaps as a true canine adventure, perhaps permanently attached to Hex, or to Cadmus, he gets shot by a possessed Dubbilex's mental blast!
Dubbs says he's "unharmed", but allow me to wonder if the little terrier ever recovered. Dubbilex is himself zapped and Tana and Dr. Roquette bring him to Cadmus, not knowing what to do. They don't bring the dog. And he is never seen or heard from again. This is, as far as I know, his last ever panel:
