Krypto #134: First Responder

From: 9-11 GN (February 2002)

In 2002, DC published a memorial to the 9-11 tragedy featuring many writers and artists' contributions. There are few superheroes in it, as it is really about real-life heroes - first responders, survivors - and when they do appear, they're either dreams or honoring those real heroes. Our boy Krypto appears on the cover, but also in an interior story that shines a light on canine heroes:
The Red Cross' dogs look for survivors in the rubble, they work all day and all night, so the least Krypto can do is run them supplies.
Cute. Note his Silver Age winking at the reader. Add Reality Check to his suite of powers.

A worthy book. At least it avoided the trap Marvel fell into, when it showed Dr. Doom crying over the towers.

They were kind of in a no win situation with these. Villains in both universes have regularly some things much, much worse than 9/11. It's a nice sentiment but it does kind of break the universe (although agreed, this is better than the comic where actual super villains who have destroyed New York looked upset at the ruins of the World Trade Centre.)

A couple of short strips aside, this book didn't really feature superheroes, so we can take it to be set in the real world rather than the DCU.
