A. Bug, reporter for Channel 52... Where the house style of DC's New 52 edges closer to grimdark and 90s angst, in their second year, they nevertheless started doing humorously meta-textual house ads in the form of a fictional television channel that seemed to know it was reporting on a fictional universe. Case in point, Ambush Bug was on staff (and so it appears Bethany Snow might also know she's in a comic now - bad influences). But was it FUNNY? You be the judge. Here are some A. Bug's most important bits of reporting:
Unconfirmed Missing Persons: What happens when a hero's book is cancelled
Man-Bats Attack Gotham, allegedly
Slow News Day - let's just do a profile on our lead reporter
Superman/Wonder Woman: 'shipping gone wrong
Red Lantern Supergirl: Our Thoughts Exactly
Gotham Subway Tragedy
Man... where's the joke? And you know what? From then on, the DCU is apparently so dark, it can't abide Ambush Bug existing even in its margins. Here's his last appearance, LITERALLY being sidelined:
Soon after that, Channel 52 stopped using characters and just became sort of magazine fact files, and then dropped the C52 brand entirely. You tried, Irwin. You tried.
(Note: As the feature ran weekly, this is a mere sampling. If you're nice to me, we may revisit Bug's news portfolio at a later date.)
