The feature inspired by great cosplay and fan art where I imagine various comics properties taken to the small screen and wonder aloud just what their shows would be like. It's crazy, but since I did many of these some years ago, a couple of the properties covered have gone on to HAVE TV series (or a movie). So truly, anything's possible. Today's pitch: Lady Blackhawk!
Fan art by: Jeff Chapman
So I know Steven Spielberg may be developing a Blackhawk movie, and there was talk in some quarters of making it spin out of the successful Wonder Woman movie (what, by making the Blackhawks WWI aces?), but why use a female-driven hit to push a male-driven film? Let's just skip to the good stuff and give Lady Blackhawk a series. I mean, I don't even know if I WANT Blackhawk IN IT. Zinda Blake (such a great name) could just take over his role entirely, get the Blackhawks together, fly off Blackhawk Island at the foremost tip of the formation, and lead the fight for the skies of Europe and the Pacific. Sure, Janos could be in it, I don't mind, as a love interest, and if we really turn the tables, HE should be the one who tries to prove he should be a Blackhawk, infiltrate the island, etc. HE should be the one initially rejected, and dare I say it, could act as Season 2's Mon-El type. And though Lady Blackhawk would be special as the only female fighting ace in the war (which is why the Blackhawks are not affiliated with the military), she would give opportunities to other women when she builds her team, and we could have, for example, a female Chop-Chop, or André (Andrée is the female form of the name in French), and indeed, other minorities rarely represented in WWII narratives.
As part of the Arrowverse, she could spin out of Legends, and then develop WWII as a setting, with Golden Age villains making appearances. People like King Shark and Baron Blitzkrieg and the Iron Major are all quite translatable to television. Maybe Enemy Ace is a WWII ace and a sort of noble opponent. And who doesn't want to see the War Wheel in live action?
But perhaps you have other ideas for a Lady Blackhawk/Blackhawks television show?
