From: All-Star Superman #6 (March 2007), plus Superman/Batman #32 (February 2007)
In the All-Star universe, Krypto is the good ol' dog we remember from the Silver Age, spending a lot of time in space, but visiting his master on the odd occasion.
The big difference with the version in the contemporary comics is that Superman isn't a "deadbeat dad" consistently trying to fob him off to someone else. He enjoys those visits tremendously.
I mean, this is very sweet stuff.
And yes, he'll be there for Clark when his Pa dies.
BONUS: Krypto is part of the alien-related superhero army in Superman/Batman #32, even though he appears in only one panel, no matter where the action then goes:
Despero was behind the scheme to inflame xenophobic feelings on Earth and was beaten in the end, but we never did get a shot of Krypto taking a big bite out of his pink ass.
