Krypto #170: All-Ages Super-Pet

From: Super Friends #14 (June 2009)

I dare say, the all-ages version of the Legion of Super-Pets has a better roster than the Silver Age classic. Ch'p (NOT A PET!!!), Topo, Ace the Bat-Hound, Beppo, Streaky, Jumpa the Kanga, and of course Krypto. They save the day when Kanjar Ro shows up at the United Nations and bongs his Gamma Gong, freezing everyone on Earth in place. Everyone who's human, that is. The animals are exempt. The Super-Pets spring into action, and Krypto deftly disarms Ro:

But they don't know how the Gong works and he tricks them into thinking a whistle will free the Super Friends. In actuality, it calls a fleet of flying saucers bearing an army of giant ants! This is too much for just one team to handle, so Beppo flies off to the JLA's satellite HQ and activates Gorilla Grodd's device in the trophy room. It changes all the apes into humans, and all the humans into apes. Suddenly, the Super Friends are free, and it's Just a Lot of Animals fighting ants and capturing Kanjar Ro.
All's well that ends well, but as this is an all-ages comic, lets throw in some kid-friendly extras. How about a puzzle?
And an educational PSA! Kids LOVE education PSAs!
Watch out for the bubonic plague-carrying squirrel, children! And that's one to growl on!

Jumpa? That's a heck of a trivia pull for a super-pet.

Part of why I think DC's late 2000s all-ages books are greatly underrated.
