GUILTY! Jonathan Powell and Michael Grade are always painted as the villains of the piece, but really, John Nathan-Turner and to a lesser extent Eric Saward should be held responsible. If the Doctor In Distress charity single was painfully misguided, the sense of provocation in putting the doctor on trial in this (feeble) comeback season after the hiatus is insane. In retrospect, it would have been a real shame to lose the later delightful McCoy/Aldred partnership, but I hope I would have put any lingering sentiment aside as a BBC Executive and responded to the provocation and cancelled the series.
