From Hercules: "Three-Ring Chaos" by Max Elkan, Hit Comics #21 (April 1942)
Quality's Hercules grabs an elephant and throws him at the bad guys. Big fella's only stunned by it, thankfully, but the baddies are irreversibly crushed. GOLDEN AGE VIOLENCE!
From Blackhawk: "The Man In The Iron Mask" by Dick French and Chuck Cuidera, Military Comics #9 (April 1942)
A chapter of the Blackhawks' story I wasn't aware of... André was seemingly killed, but survived with his face all smashed in in a Nazi prison camp/castle. It allows the strip to riff on The Man in the Iron Mask, and at the end of the story, they don't know if they can't fix his face, or what he'll look like when they do!
Given the usual variety of faces in comics, I wouldn't be too concerned.
From Paul Bunyan: "Crime in the City" by Reed Crandall, National Comics #22 (April 1942)
Paul Bunyan's strip comes to an end with this issue and he's never heard from again, so I thought we'd give him a proper send-off and feature the last panel from his final, slim 4-pager. The caption is a LIE!
