I suppose it's fitting that Sandman offers a bit of nightmare fuel, but jeeeeez-oh! What is that face he's making?! Never mind that, how about that racist comment! That was a rough 3 years for American comics. The issue starts with a text piece about Pearl Harbor, and ends with the JSA becoming the Justice Battalion of America. Though they get involved in military action in the body of the story, the government feels they are more useful at home countering Fifth Columnists, so they won't win the war ahead of time, nor steal the thunder of real heroes, i.e. the serving men and women of the Allied countries.
But that song... is it real? Yes! It's a 1942 hit called Rose O'Day AKA The Filla Da Gusha Song by Kate Smith. Here it is:
