Hermes did lend his sandals out, notably to Perseus when he went to kill Medusa. Vesta was another of the virgin goddesses (along with Athena and Artemis) and the priestesses who tended her temples were the Vestal Virgins, who were supposed to keep a fire lit continually in each temple.
