Hmmm, the first bird with a freaky beak that came to my mind was a marabou stork, but shoebills and spoonbills are pretty weird too. For me, the funniest thing about Black Condor taking over the Senator's life was that the Senator's girlfriend never even noticed the difference! Either she's really un-observant, or Condor was a much better lay and she just decided to go with it.

I always got the impression that Black Hand's cliches were just a way for the writers to do a bunch of stupid puns, almost like a writing challenge.

Snoopy's plane was always said to be a Sopwith Camel (and there are numerous drawings of him flying one online), but I think you're right about him always just sitting on the doghouse in the original comic strips.
