From "Superman, Matinee Idol" by Jerry Siegel, Joe Shuster and John Sikela, Superman #19 (December 1942)
A film ribbon panel from a Superman strip so noteworthy, it was reprinted several times. The story has Clark Kent and Lois Lane go to a picture show and watch a fictional sequel to the Fleischer cartoon - it's got the same mad scientist breaking out of jail, and also evokes "The Mechanical Monsters" which was to come - with Clark whisking Lois out of the theater every time he expects the action to turn to themselves working at the Daily Planet. It's pretty insane, but very neat, especially those novelty panel borders.
And obviously, it ends with Superman winking at the camera/us/himself as Clark.
This issue ramps up the fantasy-sci-fi elements as well, and includes the battle with Funnyface that Roy Thomas retconned into an All-Star Squadron story (the details here), despite editor Jack Schiff taking over as of the next issue. His vision for Superman is more in line with those elements.
