One Panel #715: Great Green Lantern's Ghost!

From "The Legion of the Lantern" by Bill Finger, Martin Nodell and Jon Chester Kozlak, Green Lantern Quarterly #5 (September 1942)

Splash page opening the second chapter of a full-length story set in war-torn North Africa. I appreciate how the trailer where GL is meant to have been killed (probably accidentally) looks like a stumpy casket and the smoke puffs of gun fire like funereal flowers. The spirit of Alan Scott hovering over it (a metaphor) completes the picture. I'm sure young readers unused to comic book tricks back in '42 feared their hero was well and truly dead. On page 14 of a 52-page story. Yeah, sure.
