What a Card: T'Lar

Being a look back at cards from the Star Trek CCG, and what I thought of them back when they were fresh and new... in EPISODE order. Our final card from Search for Spock is one I didn't review back in the day, so I have some work to do...

EXPANSION: The Motion Pictures

PICTURE: I was a bit down on Fal-tor-pan's color correction, but I think it suits T'Lar herself better. Not much of a background, but the pastel blue and the red make her portrait pop. How about 3.4?

LORE: The whole fal-tor-pan thing is given its due, and all the information we actually know is on there. Not sure what else we need, but it's a little dry, like Vulcan. 3.3 for completeness.

TREK SENSE:
The revered elder status makes her a VIP, and being high priestess means she holds Leadership over other clergy members of her temple. The rest has to do with the fal-tor-pan ceremony, which she can download (that Event has alot of Trek Sense problems which I won't burden T'Lar with). Transferring katras is borderline Medical - I think we can accept it - and because it's lost to history, requires Anthropology to understand even how to approach it. Mindmeld x2 is more obvious, since it's a difficult telepathic procedure. It probably also requires high Cunning, which she has (higher than most Vulcans, in fact). Her personal discipline also sets Integrity at the highest of levels. Her age, of course, keeps her Strength at a frail 3. So all in all, very good modelling of what we see on screen - a 4.

STOCKABILITY: Vulcan deck or not, T'Lar has two impressive attributes and great skills for dilemma-busting (and that correspond to two thirds of Vulcan's Observe Ritual, where she can report as if it were an Outpost). In addition to all the tricks afforded by Mindmeld, T'Lar can get Fal-tor-pan into play at any time, so she's a prime candidate for seeding under Q's Tent for the earliest availability. From then on, you're resurrecting valuable Vulcans (then re-reporting them to Vulcan) left and right. Well, within reason. To help you along, you need a discarding mechanism that gets Vulcans into play in a round about way, like Smooth as an Android's Bottom. But if all you're doing with T'Lar is solving missions, you still get some bang for your buck. A 3.9.

TOTAL: 14.6 (73%) The old lady still has something to give.
