From Zatara: "Crimes by Coincidence" by Gardner Fox and Joseph Sulman, Action Comics #55 (December 1942)
One of the charming things about the Zatara strip is that he often creates familiars to do the fisticuffs for him. Gives them a name and everything. Bricktop is this issue's featured brawler, crafted from a broken wall, and able to change his configuration (stretch his arm, arch his back protectively) if Zatara casts an additional spell. That's a bit limiting, but Bricktop does have a mind of his own, enough to throw lots of sass and "agree" to helping Zatara on the adventure. I guess it's better than being a chunk of building.
The story ends without us seeing Bricktop return to his constituent inert elements, so... he's still out there?
