One Panel #738: Afterimages

From Johnny Quick: "400 Years in a Day" by Mort Meskin and Cliff Young, More Fun Comics #86 (December 1942)

There are several super-speedsters in the Golden Age, and HOW to portray the power varies, but it's usually speed lines, or in the Flash's case, tornadoes. I much prefer what Meskin was developing with Johnny Quick, using afterimages to show simultaneous action inside a short moment. Was he the first? I bet there's a thesis in there for the intrepid comics historian.
