One Panel #749-751: Quickly Introducing Mary Marvel!

From Mr. Scarlet: "Mr. Scarlet Hooks the Hook" by Otto Binder and unknown artist, Wow Comics #8 (December 1942)

The difference a month makes. The difference a PUBLISHING YEAR makes. At least for Mister Scarlet. As of Wow #8, he rules the cover and has two stories in each issue. But eating a peg leg in the teeth isn't the last of his problems. because a new member of the Marvel Family is about to usurp his throne...

...as One Panel moves to comics on the stands in November of 1942 (generally, if not always, cover-dated January 1943):
From "Capt. Marvel Introduces Mary Marvel" by Otto Binder and Marc Swayze, Captain Marvel Adventures #18 (December 1942)

First Captain Marvel and Junior welcome Billy Batson's long-lost sister to the fold: Mary Marvel! Of course, she can't receive powers from the same gods and heroes. Girls need their own GODDESSES and HEROINES. So long as they spell out the same magic word.

From Mary Marvel: "The Night Before Xmas" by Otto Binder and Marc Swayze, Wow Comics #9 (January 1943))

And then BAM, a month later*, she takes over Wow Comics as cover-feature and lead story. It's a Christmas special, too! Now Fawcett has FIVE monthly Marvel series... how long until Mary has her own book as well?

*I've cheated a bit. This comes out December 1943, but it makes my point.

Love Mary Marvel. Surprisingly forward thinking for the time, even with the Godesses for her powers. I find it a somewhat brilliant and educational that they went that route. Plus, the added bonus of - let’s appeal to little girls who read comics.
