One Panel #789: New Paint Job

From "Your Face Is Your Fortune" by Jack Schiff, Bob Kane, Jerry Robinson and George Roussos, Batman #15 (March 1943)

Mort Weisinger gets drafted and gives the title over to Jack Schiff to edit, and Schiff will do for the next 20+ years (he took over on Detective the previous month). He had introduced the iconic Bat-Signal a year before, so the franchise seemed in good hands. Today, though, his era is so far from what we think of as "Batman" that it's often derided or mocked, though some fans have a lot of affection for the era of giant typewriters and Batman hanging out on alien planets. He successfully kept Batman alive through the 50s after the superhero bust, but by 1964, the books were on the chopping block and someone else had to take over and reinvent the Caped Crusader again.

Just goes to show, walls need to be painted every once in a while.
