CAPTAIN'S LOG: Zero puts everything on the line to save Voyager from a temporal weapon.
WHY WE LIKE IT: A story of sacrifice. Zero back to basics+.
WHY WE DON'T: We've seen the dogfighting already.
REVIEW: Voyager is dead in space, the Protostar is succumbing to the same energy drain, and Wesley Crusher is being tortured so Asencia can use his temporal energy to fuel her weapons and visions (he tricks her with a What If, at least). The coup de grĂ¢ce is a big honking missing that pierces Voyager's hull and starts aging personnel and equipment. Only Zero, whose form can die, but not the energy being within, can save everyone. I certainly didn't think I'd see one of the kids die of old age on this show, but here we are. This is really all so we can get Zero back to their "bubble suit" look, though this time, Jankom has given them sensory inputs. Still, the sacrifice is felt in the moment.
Another sacrifice in the making is Ma'jel taking the lead in drawing the missile away from the ships, and ultimately into Drednok's warship (with a Boothby Supernova maneuver, cute). I was feeling like the dogfighting between the Nova Squadron shuttles and the drones had been done last episode, but then it turns into this sequence, so okay. Good thing the little fighters had "saucer sep" capability, so neither Ma'jel, Dal, nor the other Nova Squadron cadet hopefuls had to die. Still, the sacrifice is felt in the moment.
Not even Janeway's Andorian first officer dies here, as the Doctor is sure he can reverse his aging. But when he saves an ensign and gets zapped, the sacrifice is felt. Hm, there's a theme at work, here. The question remains as to whether this show for kids will dare ACTUALLY make a permanent sacrifice before the end...
LESSON: When everyone does their part, good outcomes result.
REWATCHABILITY - Medium-High: We're getting close to the end and big things keep happening. But is any consequence going to stick?
