"Bow ties are, and always will be, cool."
TECHNICAL SPECS: First aired Nov.18 2011. It was part of that year's Children in Need special. Available on YouTube.IN THIS ONE... The Doctor auctions away his clothes for Children in Need.
REVIEW: Is Matt Smith's Doctor the most naked Doctor? In this fairly amusing short written by Moffat himself, Doc11 gives the British public the opportunity to bid on elements of his iconic costume, riffing on how they're unique and made of "infinity tweed" or are "hyper" in some way, before throwing self-deprecation into it and admitting they're pretty normal, actually. When he steps out from under the screen, he's suddenly dressed again as Moffat FIRST introduces the holographic clothes he will reuse in The Time of the Doctor. So for the show's historians, The Naked Truth gets a little bit of lustre there. Obviously, the red button option allows the audience to make them disappear because YES, Matt Smith IS the nakedest Doctor (move over, Pertwee and Tennant!).
In terms of staging, I kind of wish we were in the TARDIS wardrobe, but as that's not an existing set in this era, we're outside the TARDIS (signpost to the not-we's that this is Doctor Who bit) and there are costumes VAGUELY reminiscent of his and former companions' old costumes. Look, it's two minutes long and it's for charity. We can't be spending too much on it. Thankfully, Smith always gives a full Doctorish performance.
THEORIES: There's no reason the Doctor - especially THIS Doctor - wouldn't IN-CANON participate in a telethon. You just happened to tune into the Whoniverse for a couple minutes there.
VERSIONS: The BBC website rather calls this one "The Doctor Drops In".
REWATCHABILITY: Medium - A fun two minutes that actually connect to this Doctor's farewell story.
