IN THIS ONE... Jo and Cliff fight giant maggots again.
REVIEW: As we move from parody to actual mini-adventures, the absolute treasure that is Katy Manning steps into the fray, fresh off her appearance in The Sarah Jane Adventures as an adventuress in her own right. I always hoped Katy would take over from Lis Sladen on the show, with her grandson in tow, but I know that was a pipe dream considering she still lived in Australia. But this will do. The timeline established in Global Conspiracy!, the mockumentary included on the original The Green Death DVD, which had her and Cliff get a divorce, has been undone (as per SJA), and the two of them here return to Wholeweal to take care of a new outbreak of giant maggots. In Bessie, no less! I mean, no one's been using it. After a minute, Katy voices an ad for the blurays, but stick around for the bookend. I could do without its squirming real-life maggot bowl, but there's a cute bit about Mike Yates in there. Seems the older Jo Jones née Grant is very busy indeed (and, in fact, returns for more adventure in future boxed sets).
THEORIES: Jo seems to be on the same UNIT program as other former companions, as later seen in The Power of the Doctor. Her use of Bessie (no doubt in storage at UNIT) and the call from Yates (no longer UNIT, but part of the companion network) seem to point in that direction.
REWATCHABILITY: Medium-High - It's a slim little story, but it heralds a change in the bluray promos towards canonical fiction, and I couldn't be any happier.
