I've been running a steady Torg Eternity role-playing campaign for over three years now, so I couldn't help but notice that Marvel and DC's two latest crossover events have a lot in common with the world of Torg. Case in point...
Age of Revelation"X Years in the Future", a virus is spreading across America, turning it into a wild forest and its population into mutants. The villain at the top of the food chain is Revelation, the former Cipher, who aims to conquer the whole planet and turn into his version of Ego. He sometimes punishes rebels by scrambling their brains so they can't communicate, etc., essentially turning them into primitives.
In Torg's "Near Now", the U.S. is being turned into the Living Land, a dinosaur filled jungle, and its population (as with every invaded region of Torg Earth) is being transformed into primitive cave people. At the top of the food chain in every cosm is a High Lord who needs to take EVERYTHING over so they can become "Torg", the most powerful being in creation.DC KO
In DC's current event, Darkseid will take everything over (become "Torg"--sorry, "King Omega") unless the heroes can win the Heart of Apokolips, a sentient device that both starts to turn Earth into a new Apokolips AND acts as a corrupting influence on the heroes. Whoever controls the Heart can transform reality into their own world.
In Torg, each High Lord is bolstered (some would say corrupted and controlled) by a Darkness Device which is what allows them to turn reality into their own idiom. Darkness Devices are sentient and sometimes threaten to attach themselves to a different being when their High Lords disappoint them.
So am I hallucinating, or do those storylines have more than a few things in common with Torg?
