Timeslip: Captain America

In Timeslip, a hot artist of today is taken back to 1962 to get handed an assignment by Stan Lee. So what happens when Keith Giffen gets handed this assignment? For the first time, you'll note that Timeslip allows the artist to reinterpret the idea as well as the look. Cap as America existed in the 90s, eh?
Too far?

But the idea is sound. While I wouldn't give up Steve Rogers (sorry, Marvel), making Captain America a reflection of the national identity is interesting. The perfect family man and commie-buster in the 50. A right hippie fighting the government in the 60s. Disco-Cap and his sexcapades in the 70s. The corporate tool of the 80s. And besides, here's what the 90s actually gave us:
and
oh yeah, and
...the horror... the horror...

So what does it mean if Captain America was killed in the '00s?

Griffen's Cap looks a lot like General Glory.

What is wrong with Leifeld? Why all the bent shields?

Why?

WHY?

Rob... it's a shield... it's not Kirby thech... It's not «steam punk»... It's a god forsaken SHIELD!

If Leifeld can make it in comics... we all can.

The more you know.

Anon: Probably not a coincidence, that shoulder to shoulder eagle. Though Gen. Glory looks like a much nicer guy.

Bass: I think most people with his level of talent would stop short of publishing because they'd think it wasn't good enough. What you really need is a powerful delusion.

I do like the idea of the costume reflecting the era but man is that ever one UGLY costume.

I am curious as to finding out what that electrical cord connected to the shield does though, if it even is electrical.

Any ideas?

There's a light on the other side, see it?

My guess is that Cap is wired with neon.

it means that America doesnt know who it is right now, so the symbol of everything good and solid and righteous must be torn down(if only for the moment), since he casts a harsh light on who we are at the moment.

I only ask because I'm not over there.

Over here, Captain Canuck is acting all nonchalant as usual, but he's wearing Captain America's hand-me-downs for some reason.

And driving an SUV with a Green Peace bumper sticker.

And what about that golden eagle on his chest and shoulders? There's a bad idea! What if he were to look the wrong way and suddenly be a symbol for the Third Reich? What was Leifeld thinking!?

You mean Giffen, don't you?

Hey, a crime Liefeld is innocent of!

(Although I'm sure we could find a way to blame him.)
