Batman and the Outsiders #0: Pages 9-10

To recap: 2 pages ago, Katana back-handed a guy in the throat. Now it appears he's dead. Katana is hardcore. Even when you think she's softcore. Even if it looks like it hurt, but wasn't fatal. Even if it's Batman's operation and he makes a point of not killing. See that disarming maneuver? Could have been fatal. You just never know.
Again to recap: The bad guys' entire shtick is killing their leader and themselves so that none of them can give up the others (who all want to die anyway, so why not just hang yourselves and be done with it - Miklos can't give up a corpse). Now it turns out they don't even stand by their convictions. Way to take the stuffing out of already lame villains!
Just who are these amateur ninjas?
My definition of amateur: Needs to throw his shuriken at point blank range and still misses. Oh and that gore-free sword slap? Fatal.

And now for an actually badass sequence:
And now back to our suckathon...
A little magic like throw lightning bolts their way?
Oh you meant a little magic like risking life and limb by taking this fight to close quarters. Now I see. You think those guys have any idea what Black Lightning is talking about? "THAN YOUR TRIGGERS!!!" Worst. Battlecry. Ever.
An Aparo Punch(TM) that just lobotomized that guy.
Actually no. He's still talking. JIVE talking*. My theory is that the running guy is also a ventriloquist.

Oh NOW you're gonna muster up some lightning?

*It stands to reason that if Katana's opponents have oriental weapons, then BL's would talk jive. Geo-Force is probably fighting Eastern Europeans somewhere else.

Having NEVER read this comic, i still wonder how it actually sold after such a lame #0.

How many episodes were printed? 8? 12? (googling)

FORTY?!?!?!

(bangs forehead against wall)

(repeatedly)

More than that, my friend. Outsiders went solo without the Batman after that. Followed by a couple more iterations of the team that weren't any better.

Of course, this "#0" wasn't a try-out, but a preview for a series already in production. It would have been put on sale no matter what.

One of Black Lightning's least known powers back in the day was the ability to make characters around him use the word "turkey".

I wish I wasn't making it up, but read his first series and you'll see it is true.
