5 Things to Like About Teen Titans Year 1 #2

This is turning out to be great fun, combining the aura of Bob Haney's original stories with the manga sensibilities of the cartoon series. I'm enjoying the heck out of it for these and other reasons.

1. Badass TopoAquaman has turned evil like the rest of the JLA, which goes a long way to show how badass he was even in the "talking to the fishes" era. Topo, his right hands man, should rightly scare more than ichtyophobic Garth.

2. The flying fish leap
Hero shot!

3. Garth's follow-through
Don't worry Aqualad, they're just setting you up to save the day in issue 6.

4. Mr. Twister
Come on, he's gotta to be out for revenge after the events of Brave and the Bold #54 (thanks for putting that in continuity, Editor's Note - even the bit about Aqualad moving an island?) and the bad weather throughout this issue can only be foreshadowing.

5. Wonder Girl looks like a real girl her age
In this comic book world of buxom 16-year-old nymphettes straining the bounds of their uniforms, I find Wonder Girl's loose-fitting tank top thoroughly charming.

It was a good week for fun comics!

i've been enjoying the series, too, and yeah, i like that WG looks like an actual teenage girl, not a porn star!

I was never much of a Teen Titans fan, but I find that I am enjoying this mini-series enormously. It...it is just so darned charming!

I'm a long-time Titans fan, and I've enjoyed this series as well. My only complaint: I wish Aqualad were drawn a bit more "on model", but I can live with it.

I haven't actually checked this out.

The current run of the main comic has gotten a mite tedious lately. It pales even more in comparison as I re-watch the 4th season of the series on DVD.

I had hoped with Ms. Martian (who is usually great) they might be catching a sense of the fun that the series had. But now they've emo'ed her too.

Matt: I see your point (chipmunk of the sea!), but do like how the scale shirts look though!

Mwb: I can pretty much guarantee Year One has very little to do with the current series, tonally or otherwise.

That's nice. I have the "Showcase" reprint and those old stories with Nick Cardy art are tons better than the current "Titans." It's nice to see DC doing something with the same wacky feel.
