No, nothing this week.

"Accomplishments"

Trades: I'd gotten the Black Glove hardcover because I'd missed the Club of Heroes story in the single issues, unforgivably. And while those issues are pretty cool, the package as a whole is grossly uneven. On the first three chapters, you have J.H. Williams III'a art, and if I hadn't already been a fan of his, he proved in 7 Soldiers that he could interpret (nay, ENHANCE!) a Grant Morrison script like no one else. On the next three, you have Tony Daniel, who's actually not at his worst yet. Finish it up with Ryan Benjamin's absolutely horrendous Ten-Eyed-Men issue. So from sublime to Rob Liefeld-bad in just 7 issues. Shoulda just tracked down the Williams issues.

DVDs: Flipped the 6th Doctor adventure, Mindwarp, part two of Trial of a Time Lord. Like I've said before, I haven't seen this season before, so it's all new to me. Not sure what to think of this one. On the one hand, it's got a boisterous Klingon-like character played by Brian Blessed, the most memorable villain of the 80s, Sil, and a good role for the departing Peri. On the other, there's an immense amount of over-acting, the Doctor isn't himself (though even he's not sure who he's supposed to be), and Peri's death leaves you feeling queasy. It's either the best story of the season or the worst. The DVD offers the usual commentaries, photos and making of feature, plus a feature on the Trial locations (with spoilers for the next two stories, watch out), a Children in Need appearance by a ton of Who actors, and a Lenny Henry Who sketch.

I also flipped 30Rock Season 2, which clocks in at only 15 episodes (damn you, writers' strike!!!). Still good, and now I have to ferret out the current season's episodes or (gasp) wait for the next DVD. The package includes 10 commentaries, much better than Season 1's, even if some of the actors simply enjoy filling their air time with lies, a few deleted scenes, a Q & A, an entire episode's table read, and the live performance of an episode (with improvized commercial segments) played at an improv theater to collect money for the production assistants out of work because of the strike. The sound on that last one isn't as bad as you might imagine, and it's hilarious.

New Unauthorized Doctor Who CCG cards: 19, all from the 10th Doctor story, 42. They're very red.

Someone Else's Post of the Week
I'm sending you over to Firestorm Fan 1) because Shag runs a pretty cool blog or two, and 2) because he and 10 other superhero blogs created their own Crisis event this week. You can get to them all from HIS PAGE. Remember folks:

And you just reminded me that I completely forgot to answer the invitation for the next one. Swamped at work and life, I'm afraid. Next year for sure!
Siskoid - Thanks! Frank's crossover got postponed until January. I'll let him know to contact you again.

Thanks!
