Spaceknight Saturdays: Ant-Knights!

Canada's water supply has been infected by the "Wraith taint", and it's much worse than we thought. This thing isn't just heading down the river, it's seeping into the soil, it's infecting the entire food chain by going from insects to fish to birds to bears to humans. And it's transforming everything into Wraithworld versions of themselves, in effect mystically terraforming the Earth into a vile cesspool conducive to Wraithlife. Apparently, the "four corners of Canada" are closer together than my geography courses ever let on.

Who you gonna call? That's right, the Giant-Sized Ant-Man!
Oh, perspective, you get me every time! But like I said, Marvel's Canada is especially tiny. Even the flag is smaller, so they had to ditch the two stripes.
Alpha Flight's still around, but really just recuperating from last issue's events.
Dude, we totally don't need to see that.

Speaking of unsightly, the next scene features the U.S. general in charge of the Wraith-Hunter Rangers unit operating on Canadian soil as if it were his home patch, with Rick Jones at his side. He's the one who called Ant-Man at Rom's behest. One thing you need to know about Scott Lang:
He doesn't watch the news. I know there's a government cover-up, but Rom did go on national tv to talk about the Wraith threat, and it's not like a super-hero would choose to disbelieve such things. So poor uninformed Ant-Man shares his Pym Juice with the Spaceknights and they shrink down together to see where the tainted water's going.
Another thing to keep in mind about Scott Lang is that he's real friendly with the ants.
Hank Pym: Forces ants to cushion his fall after a good long catapulting across town. Scott Lang: "They're hurting my friiiiieeeeennnnds!" But they're not really his friends anymore. They're being changed by the Taint:
I love Bill Mantlo when he gets all melodramatic: THE BATTLE BENEATH THE EARTH BEGINS!
Still just ants, right? Note how Ant-Man uses a rock (probably just a large grain of sand, actually) to hit the Wraith-ants. The Astonishing Outclassed Ant-Man follows that up with... kicking!
Nothing wrong with kicking, but it's about that points that the Spaceknights look at each other and send the Ant-Man home. To make sure he gets the message, they shrink to the microscopic world with their stored Pym particles and he's left to race back to the surface where it's black fly/mosquito season in Canada.
And that's BEFORE the Wraith Taint!

Next issue: Rom, Micronaut!
